If the item was tagged with your personal YOU-FOUND-IT key and you have lost it, you will receive a message from YOU-FOUND-IT.com as soon as the finder notifies you on the YOU-FOUND-IT.com webpage.

What is the lenght of service? » back

The YOU-FOUND-IT key (if sold on a product or just as the Tag-Mark) is pre-paid and includes subscription to the service for a term that varies from 6 months to 3 years, depending on the product. At the end of subscription term, renewal is offered.

What is the reward for finding someone's property? » back

We are not involved in the process of organizing or physically moving back property to the owner or rewarding the finder. YOU-FOUND-IT is a matching network to get the two parties (the owner and the finder) anonymously together. It is entirely up to the owner of the lost item to offer a reward if he wants to do so.



What is a YOU-FOUND-IT key? » back

The YOU-FOUND-IT key can be found on Tag-Marks like labels and key-rings or luggage tags. A YOU-FOUND-IT key looks something like sodu-760e-1710-c4bf. Put your YOU-FOUND-IT key on labels, onto key-rings or anything that you want to have marked. If you happen to lose the item, the finder, lost property department or law enforcement agency will contact you by using the YOU-FOUND-IT key on your lost property.



What is a Tag-Mark? » back

A Tag-Mark is a label (or key-ring, luggage tag, wallet-card or anything else) which includes instructions on how to contact you, the owner. On the same Tag-Mark the finder also can view your personal YOU-FOUND-IT key. Tag-Marks can be put onto all your property so the finder knows how to get in touch with you.



Is personal information required to use the service? » back

No! The only requirement is at least a valid email address and the unique YOU-FOUND-IT key so the finder is able to contact you if a lost item is found. Please also view our Privacy Policy and the General Terms and Conditions.



I've received a YOU-FOUND-IT key on a Tag-Mark or label. What next? » back

First step: Register and activate your Key online; go to REGISTER KEY. All you need is your personal key and a valid email address. Optionally, you may add an alternative email address as a back-up. That's it!

Only a registered YOU-FOUND-IT key will successfully track your lost property.

Next step: Simply attach the Tag-Mark or label to your property.



I lost something - what next? » back

If you lose an object with a YOU-FOUND-IT address tag, either the finder, a lost property office or another appropriate person will read the instructions on the tag.

The person (finder / lost property office etc.) will go to the website www.you-found-it.com and type in your key, which appears on the address tag.

The YOU-FOUND-IT system then sends an email to you, the owner, so that you can arrange the collection or delivery of the lost item with the finder!



Wouldn't it be easier to just write my name on my property? » back

Of course, you don't want just anyone to know your name and telephone number. It is most important that none of your personal details appear on your key ring, otherwise you are simply making things easy for burglars.

But if only your name is on the item, it cannot be returned to you. Indeed, your name alone will not be enough even to enable a finder to contact you.

YOU-FOUND-IT acts exclusively as intermediary between two parties - the owner and the finder. All communication between the two parties is without any participation or contribution by YOU-FOUND-IT. We fully respect your privacy.

Does YOU-FOUND-IT prevents theft? » back

Law enforcement statistics have shown that it is much less likely to have a property / item stolen if it is marked in some way (due to psychological barriers and resale difficulties). Thieves avoid Tag-Marked items.

No problem! Simply login and modify your details as required in MY ACCOUNT .


What are the costs? » back

There is no fee for reporting a found item and there is no fee for retrieving your lost property. No hidden costs at all.

Why do I keep getting "HTTP page not found error"? » back

It is usually due to poor connectivity from your service provider to the YOU-FOUND-IT server. This is generally temporary. Please try to access the web site later.



What is 'register key' » back

You received a YOU-FOUND-IT Tag-Mark with a YOU-FOUND-IT key on it. This Tag-Mark or key can be given to you - depending of service you purchased or given to you - on paper, printed on key rings or in other forms.

This YOU-FOUND-IT Key is not-in-use until you 'activate' in 'Register Key'. Once activated, the YOU-FOUND-IT email address will start 'accepting' email messages and forward them to your usual email and to your mobile phone (if mobile-phone service is available).

Remember, you have to register just once and then you can use your personal YOU-FOUND-IT key as many times as you want on your property.



Where do I look for the YOU-FOUND-IT key? » back

The unique key that you have bought (or that has been given to you as a present or reward) can be found on Tag-Marks like labels and key-rings. A YOU-FOUND-IT key looks something like sodu-760e-1710-c4bf.

You can have as many Tag-Marks with the same common key printed on all of them. Use them on all your property. Use the key as many times as you wish. Create your own label or your own tag. The use of the key is not limited in any way.



How do I know if my key is properly activated? » back

Test it yourself ! If you have been successful in registering your key you will get an email message confirming that it is activated. To test it, use your own YOU-FOUND-IT key in the section "I found something". Within minutes you will get the email notification to the mail address(es) you have chosen for the YOU-FOUND-IT service.



Can I test the service if it works correctly? » back

Sure - use your own YOU-FOUND-IT key in the section 'I found something' and then you will get the notification sent to the email address(es) you have chosen/registered for the service.



Can I activate multiple unique keys without having to register again? » back

No. You have to register for every unique key. If you choose for any reason to have several different unique numbers, you have to register every single number.

You can "register" as many YOU-FOUND-IT keys as you like.

But remember - you can use your unique YOU-FOUND-IT key as on many items as you want - even write them yourself on different property - without paying more.

Use the key as many times as you wish. Create your own label or your own tag; the use of the key is not limited in any way.

Your combination of key, email and password is on a secure server. This information is accessible only by you with your password from the YOU-FOUND-IT website.

We ask you to provide the absolute minimum of personal information to operate our service efficiently. You only need an email address and your YOU-FOUND-IT key. "MY MESSAGE" offers the owner the unique opportunity to leave individual or spontaneous messages for a potential finder on the YOU-FOUND-IT server – any time.

The owner can therefore react individually and spontaneously to ANY loss. An immediate and INSTANTANEOUS response is especially important when one discovers that a personal item has been lost.

For example, if you are on holiday and have lost your mobile phone, the message could read: “I’ve lost my mobile phone. Until 13 August, it can be handed in at the reception of the Hotel Holliday Inn Dreamland. Reward guaranteed. Thank you.”

Or you could offer a special reward which matches the “sentimental value” of the registered or lost item – this considerably increases the chance that the person who finds the item will also return it.

Only you, as an owner, can send such messages using “MY ACCOUNT”. This means that the owner has sole responsibility, at all times, for every text that he or she writes in “MY MESSAGE” for all his or her accounts.





What is “My WHITE BOARD”? » back

“MY WHITE BOARD” is the legal, completely private, secure and comprehensively protected place for the storage of (important) personal information.

“MY WHITE BOARD” offers a 250-digit memory for text and/or numeric information and is only accessible using the appropriate username and password (access through “MY ACCOUNT”).

The owner has the unique opportunity to store personal, critical or important passwords, keywords, notes, passport numbers, emergency numbers and so on. He or she can then call these up as required, using any computer with an Internet connection anywhere in the world.
